The point of all this is to help in testing modifications made to a complex game late on in its development. When authors are nearly finished on works of IF, they normally ask a group of friends to test these works out: and inevitably requests for changes, and bug reports, come back in return. Often these bugs are easy to fix, but do such changes cause something else to go wrong? The Transcript provides an easy way to check that all of the important lines of plot continue to work correctly after changes have been made.

At three of the four turns in this short exploration, the transcript is no different: these are the turns coloured green. But the text following the EAST command has changed, and this turn is therefore coloured red - the transcript no longer matches the blessed version.

Even when we know which turn has a change, it can be hard to find the discrepancy, so the differences are also underlined: and we see that the word 'discreet' has been changed to read 'modest'.

Assuming that we are happy with this, we can click the Bless button for the turn to mark the new version as being now the authorised correct version.

That completes this rapid tour of Inform's user interface - indeed, that's about all there is to see. Despite offering radically new tools for writing IF, Inform tries to offer as simple an interface as possible. The aim is a clean, elegant system which is learned very quickly - the advanced tools can be ignored until needed, for instance - with the maximum flexibility and the minimum clutter.
